Surface area of France: the largest of the European Union countries

With 672,051 km², France’s surface area is the 41^st largest in the world.

This area includes overseas departments and regions such as Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion Island, Mayotte and French Guyana. Overseas collectivities are also taken into account in this calculation (French Polynesia, New Caledonia and other small territories).

At the European level, metropolitan France is the largest of the European Union countries, ahead of Spain (504,752 km²) and reunified Germany (356,755 km²).
