You will learn in this lesson the numbers in French from 0 to 20. Get the right pronunciation and the correct spelling! You will learn as well how to pronounce these numbers when followed but a noun (yes, the pronunciation can be different…).

Les liaisons – Liaisons
In some cases, “liaisons” (links between two words) have to be pronounced when the word following the number starts with a vowel. These “liaisons” are not specific to numbers. These links between words happen between many words.
So here, as an example, we will compare the pronunciation of French numbers followed by the word “professeur“ (starting with the consonant “p“) and numbers followed by the word “étudiant“ (starting with the vowel “é“). Professeur means teacher and étudiant means student.

You will hear that when the French numbers six (6), huit (8), dix (10) and dix-huit (18) are followed by a word starting with a consonant (the word professeur in this previous example):
➡️ six won’t be pronounced [sis] but [si]
➡️ huit won’t be pronounced [wit] but [wi]
➡️ dix won’t be pronounced [dis] but [di]
