The [u] sound in French is one of the most challenging sounds for English speakers (and not only!). Mastering it usually takes a fair amount of practice.
The [u] sound appears exclusively with the vowel u, sometimes preceded by an h or an e.
The letter u can have a circumflex accent (û) or an umlaut (ü), which do not change the [u] sound.
