A native French teacher with more than 15 years of experience
Native French teacher since 2007
Hi, I’m Anthony. I have been teaching French since 2007, which means that I have been teaching my mother tongue for more than 15 years.
I am passionate about languages, different cultures and I love sharing this passion. I take great pleasure in teaching the French language and culture to those who want to learn it.
I teach French to teenagers and adults, from beginner to advanced level.
If you want to know a little more about me and what led me to be an online French teacher, I have prepared a nice timeline below.
See you soon I hope!
“Whatever your level and your reason(s) for learning French, I will guide you step by step to achieve your goals.”
Birth
I was born in Vendôme in the Loir-et-Cher department in the middle of the afternoon. My parents and my 3-year-old sister were apparently very happy.
English and Spanish at school
I have had a passion for languages from an early age on. I could have studied German or other languages but I decided that knowing English and Spanish will allow me to communicate with as many people as possible in the world 🙂
Language travel to England and Ireland
First experiences abroad with English lessons and cultural visits during the day, accommodation in host families… Good news: I can make myself understood most of the time! Yeahh!
Studies in Madrid
First time I lived abroad, for a year of Erasmus studies in the Spanish capital. You never progress as much as when you live in the country… ¡otra cerveza por favor!
Studies in English-speaking Canada
Now that I have got a rough grasp of Spanish, I figure it is time to improve my English. I studied at the University of Regina in the middle of winter. Temperatures can go down to -52°C! At the same time, I improved my Spanish since my friends on campus were mostly Mexican and Colombian students. Double hit!
Trip around the world
I travelled with a friend to all continents for almost a year, backpack on my shoulders. In the backpack there were a camera and a computer because we visited many local primary schools, making mini-documentaries that we showed to a class of first-graders in Montpellier. In the process, we made these children aware of the importance of preserving water on our planet.
The English and Spanish languages were very useful during our trip. It was only in the middle of the Chinese countryside that dialogue became impossible. As Google translate did not exist at the time, we resorted to a rudimentary language with mimicry and pointing at things.
Life in Mexico City
Beginning to teach French as a foreign language
During the world tour I had time to think about a professional activity that would please me. After the summer of 2007 in France, I went to Mexico where I started to teach French in a language school and then in the high school of Preparatoria Tecnológico de Monterrey. I loved it! I prepared teenagers for the DELF junior A1, A2 and B1 tests and also taught adults.
Living in Mexico, my Spanish accent quickly turned into a Mexican accent and the vocabulary can also vary. The Mexican culture is very rich and I had become richer myself… in experience 🙂
Passing through Sydney
My girlfriend at that moment was Australian and I joined her in Sydney. My Spanish is useless but in English I was quickly confronted with the Australian accent and frequently used the famous phrase “G’day mate!”.
Life in Hong Kong
French Learning Café language school
Hong Kong is a fantastic place to be in contact with Chinese culture while simultaneously speaking English. Many expats live there and daily life is full of encounters with a great number nationalities.
During the first year, I gave French lessons to children, teenagers and adults of all nationalities, in language centres, private lessons and also at a Chinese University. In order to gabble a few words in local restaurants and to taxi drivers, I learned the basics of Cantonese. The pronunciation is quite difficult while the grammar is very simple. I only focused on the spoken part because the written part is really another story…
In 2009 I created “French Learning Café – Enjoy Learning French!” with a friend who was a French teacher as well. Effectively teaching French was obviously the priority but the aim is also to have a good time during the classes, which stands in contrast to a more sober traditional Hong Kong teaching style.
This small French as a Foreign Language school rapidly grew and other teachers joined the project. We created a learning programme with lots of audio material to help with the not always easy pronunciation. The courses are online and students can revise their lessons whenever they want from their phones (at the time it was really cool hehe).
I left HK in spring 2015, as once again love called me, or rather called me back to Mexico ❤️
Back to Mexico
I spent 3 years in Mexico City and then a year in Playa del Carmen, in the Caribbean, with Anabel who is now my wife. I continued to teach French in private lessons, in a fashion school and online.
Life in France
Here I was back in my native country. Living again in France is almost a new cultural experience as I had to get used to the codes, reactions and way of thinking of the French 🙂 But of course, no difficulty with the French language!
Since 2019, I had been working in the customer service department of a company selling sports goods online. I helped customers with their orders, by phone, chat or email, in French, English and Spanish. And then at home with Anabel we speak Spanish and French. So I continued to practice languages with pleasure!
What happens now?
I really miss teaching French so I am back online to help you master the French language!
Do not look any further for your native French teacher, I am here for you!
